Senator Paul Kimani Wa Matangi has been declared Kiambu county governor-elect.
In the announcement made on Saturday, August 13, by IEBC, Wamatangi, who contested on a UDA ticket garnered 348,371 votes beating second-placed Patrick 'Jungle' Wainaina who bagged 273,361 votes.
In a statement released by the outgoing senator, he thanked the people for their support and pledged to restore the county's lost glory.
" I thank God and the people of Kiambu for the honour and opportunity to serve in my new role as governor.
"I goive my assurance and commitment that I will serve you all with utmost dedication and honesty as I singlemindedly focus on the delivery of the transformative agenda of 'Make Kiambu Great Again," Wamatangi stated.
Other candidates performed as follows; Tujibebe's William Kabogo (106,980), incumbent James Nyoro (99,562), Chama Cha Kazi's Moses Kuria (24,512) and Safina's Paloma Gatabaki (4,674).
In a statement issued on August 13, Wa Jungle claimed that the election was marred with regularities not just in the gubernatorial vote but in all other elective seats.
"The total Kiambu Gubernatorial votes aggregated by form 37B is 822,609. This is about 70% voter turnout as compared to actual 55% KIEMS voter turn out (645,000 people).
"This gives a difference of about 175,000 ghost voters.Unfortunately, this affects all candidates right from Presidential to MCA!" He claimed.
On his part, Nyoro poked holes into the huge margin between the number of voters who allegedly only voted for the president while ignoring the five other seats.
Outgoing Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) was the only candidate who conceded defeat, admitting that he would be reverting to the public sector.
Ex-Kiambu governor William Kabogo decided to sit on the fence over the issue -he has neither conceded defeat nor disputed the election.
