Roots Party presidential candidate, George Luchiri Wajackoyah, confronted a journalist as he made his way into the National Tallying Centre at the Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi.
Wajackoyah, who garnered more than 50,000 votes from tallied votes, called out the journalist and asked him to stop taking photos and recording videos of his entourage.
The agitated Roots Party presidential candidate accused the journalist of publishing misleading information about his family.
Wajackoyah, who gained fame for his push to legalise Marijuana for medicinal use, added that the journalist even shared photos of his rural home, which he argued was exposing his private life.
"You have something wrong with my home?" Wajackoyah posed while arriving at Bomas of Kenya for the final presidential election results announcement.
"You went and told people lies about my family. Then you are running here, you want to take photos and videos of me."
He, however, did not disclose the identity of the journalist who angered him.
He later made his way to the main auditorium and embraced his Agano Party counterpart, David Mwaure. The latter conceded defeat and threw his weight behind Deputy President William Ruto.
"I wish to concede defeat in the presidential election 2022. We are doing this after seeing the performance so far. As we concede, we endorse the winning friend, H.E. William Samoei Ruto as the leading candidate. We know the DP is leading because like many other Kenyans, we have had access from what came from the counties, and the Deputy President is leading,” Mwaure stated.
On Sunday, August 14, Wajackoyah issued a statement assuring his supporters of his imminent win in the final announcement by the IEBC.
"Our presidential candidate, Prof George Wajackoyah, would like Kenyans to maintain peace and accord the IEBC the patience it deserves in tallying the votes. We are confident that we will win through a fair, free and credible process. Our candidate will address the nation after the official announcement by IEBC," Roots Party Secretary General, Adam Kadernani, stated.
IEBC chairperson, Wafula Chebukati, is set to make the final announcement declaring the presidential election winner.
The front runners in the race are Azimio la Umoja's Raila Odinga and Kenya Kwanza's William Ruto.
