The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially gazetted Deputy President William Ruto as the president-elect.

In a gazette notice dated August 16, IEBC chair, Wafula Chebuakati, reiterated that Ruto was duly elected as per the requirements and stipulations of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

Chebukati stated that Ruto and his deputy-elect, Rigathi Gachagua, now have the mandate to run the country once they are officially sworn in.

"William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua have been duly elected as the President and Deputy President, respectively, of the Republic of Kenya having complied with the provisions of Article 138 (4) of the Constitution, during the General Election held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022," Chebulati stated.

This comes after Chebukati announced that Former Prime Minister Odinga Raila received 6,942930 representing 48.85% while William Ruto got 7,176,141 votes representing 50.4 per cent.

Just before he announced the results Chebukati had to be whisked away after chaos broke out at the Bomas of Kenya.

the IEBC Chairperson had arrived at the Bomas of Kenya to announce the results after four other commissioners conducted a parallel press conference at a hotel in Nairobi, to dispute the outcome of the presidential poll.

At Bomas, a section of politicians blocked him from addressing the media. He was also assaulted before police intervened.

The anti-riot police officers formed a shield around him as gadgets and other equipment were thrown at him.

Chebukati was under pressure to expedite the tallying of presidential results within the seven-day timeline stipulated by the Constitution.

In the parallel press conference, IEBC Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera, and three other commissioners, Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyangaya, and Irene Masit disowned the presidential results.

"We are not at the Bomas of Kenya because we cannot take ownership of the results that are going to be announced because of the opaque nature in which these results have been handled," Cherera stated.

Azimio La Umoja chief agent Saitabao Kancory, had earlier alleged that they had evidence that IEBC's system was infiltrated by unidentified people.
