Ford Kenya party leader, Moses Wetangula, has confirmed that he will be nominated for the Speaker of the National Assembly role despite successfully defending his Bungoma senator's seat.

Speaking to the media on Friday, August 19, Wetangula said that the deal was bound by their Kenya Kwanza power-sharing pact.

The senator-elect would thus resign to take up his new position, rising to be the third most powerful politician in the country, after President-elect William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.

"I am going to be the third in command in the country. I pray to God that he gives me the wisdom to lead the National Assembly and coordinate well with the Senate.

"We will bring good laws to this country, advocate for pro-people budgets and ensure that Kenya will never be the same again," he stated.

Additionally, he argued that the Kenya Kwanza faction had more numbers to implement the agenda of President-elect William Ruto despite tailing Azimio in numbers at the August house.

Wetangula revealed that the defection of the Azimio la Umoja members and independents had given them the upper hand in the race for the leader of majority positions.

"We have the numbers, so people should not be worried. Leaders from the Northern part of Kenya and some independents have joined us and we will see to it that this country goes in the right direction," he added.

As per the Kenya Kwanza agreement, Wetangula was to take up the NA speaker while his Amani National Congress (ANC) counterpart Musalia Mudavadi was join Cabinet. Mudavadi's ANC already nominated the former Vice President for the Prime Cabinet Secretary role.

The deal was pegged on the two delivering 90 per cent of the Western Kenya vote to the Kenya Kwanza basket. None of the two, however, achieved that task..

However, Ruto made significant inroads in Bungoma beating Raila who has over the past two elections clinched top seats in the county.

Regarding President Uhuru Kenyatta's retirement, Wetangula hinted that they were willing to offer the head of state an international job to ensure that he does not stay in the cold.

"We will give you international assignments to go outside the country and other obligations including overseeing elections in foreign countries as other retired presidents do," Wetangula assured.
