Incoming Kibra Member of Parliament Peter Orero has revealed that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Suba South lawmaker John Mbadi have been proposed to take up the position of Speaker of the National Assembly.
Speaking during an interview on Ramogi TV on Thursday, August 25, the former Upper Hill School Principal indicated that the two had been proposed by members of the coalition party led by Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Notably, he indicated that neither Kalonzo nor Mbadi had expressed interest to contest for the position.
However, Orero stated that they would support the person the coalition will settle on as they are both qualified.
"Mbadi is my friend and when we met he did not tell me that he wanted to become a speaker. If the MPs think that he is the best for the position, then we shall support him.
"Kalonzo's name has also cropped up. In the event that he declares that he wants the position, then we will support him," he stated.
Orero also maintained that nothing was advanced on Kalonzo as he was offered a position in Raila's government.
He maintained that the coalition would settle on someone in the coming days as the focus was currently on the presidential petition filed at the Supreme Court.
"We have been calling Kalonzo the chief minister and that is still our prayer. Kalonzo really brought the numbers to the Azimio basket. You can see that he has numbers from his backyard in parliament. He also has three governors," he stated.
The Raila-led faction is hoping to bank on their numbers in the National Assembly to take up the speakers position.
However, they face stiff competition from Kenya Kwanza which has been on a charm offensive with some Azimio leaders defecting to the Deputy President William Ruto-led faction.
Kenya Kwanza has thrown its numerical weight Bungoma Senator-elect Moses Wetangula for the position.
