NTV news anchor, Fridah Mwaka, was on Saturday, August 27, surprised with a cake while presenting the station's 7pm prime time news bulletin.

In a clip seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the news anchor was visibly shocked by the development as his colleagues approached the studio where she was wrapping up a bulletin alongside her co-anchor, Lofty Matambo.

"Oh my God! What is happening!" remarked Mwaka while her colleagues came in singing a birthday tune.

One of the colleagues noted that the team planned a surprise for her without her knowledge because they loved her.

"We are so happy for your birthday. I know we have surprised her and she is still shocked. It was all out of love that is why we are here. We love you and may God extend your life. Happy birthday to you," the colleague stated.

The surprise was carried out by a team of around seven people alongside Matambo.

This marks Mwaka's second birthday since she joined the Kimathi Street-based broadcaster in April 2021 after a stint at KTN News.

Mwaka was poached to NTV alongside Matambo who are known to have an unrivalled on-air chemistry in the 7pm Swahili broadcast category.

Matambo quit KTN News after serving for seven and a half years while Mwaka left after serving for three years.

Mwaka announced her departure during a March bulletin, expressing her gratitude to a team that ensured her success at the Mombasa Road-based broadcaster.

Mwaka had been hired at KTN News in 2018 as the replacement of Mashirima Kapombe who had at the time transitioned to Citizen TV.

She contested for the season 2 of KTN's The Presenter and kicked off her media career at Kubamba Radio.
