Kisii Governor, Simba Arati has vowed to weed out ghost workers in the Count government's transport and finance department after he found out the county has been paying ghost drivers.

Speaking at the Kisii Agriculture Training Center (ATC) on Wednesday, August 31  during a meeting with all the county drivers and heads of departments, Governor Arati noted that the Kisii County government has been paying 256 drivers against the 82 vehicles available.

“I expected to see 256 drivers who I called here,  this is sickening, how else can we explain? are some drivers passengers in those vehicles?” the governor asked.

The governor also noted that the ghost drivers have been drawing salaries meant for development projects and other services from the county government.

He ordered all the county drivers to avail themselves at the Gusii stadium and stand alongside the vehicles they drive including emergency service providers such as the ambulances, and fire engines by tomorrow at 11: am.

Additionally, he demanded the county finance CEC to give answers why he has been procuring comprehensive insurance while giving third-party insurance to the vehicles.

Further, he demanded an explanation from the finance department on why all drivers have never received their per diem and who pockets their allowances.

“I need answers from these departments, someone must be in jail, I saw DCI here, you have been joking with the lives of these drivers, eating insurance money, we won’t allow it,

The former Dagoretti North legislator also questioned the County's human resources for hiring 256 drivers yet there are only 82 vehicles in the County.

The  Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) governor also ordered the county assembly officers to return vehicles that have been allegedly hidden in their homes with immediate effect or face arrests.

“Why would someone keep the county vehicles in their homes? We have newly elected MCAs who want to use them,”  Arati wondered

The newly elected governors have embarked on a mission to flush out ghost workers in the County clean up operation as they work to deliver on their agenda.
