Family and residents in Kamukuywa village in Kimilili, Bungoma County were shocked by the sudden reappearance of a man who was assumed dead and buried in 2021.

The man identified as Isaac Wanjala was said to have been fond of disappearing and reappearing according to the family members.

Due to Wanjala's nature to leave home and return, the family was initially unfazed when he left home in 2019 for work.

"For a while, we had not seen him. When he leaves we just wait until he returns home. However, seven months later, we received the heartbreaking news that a man resembling Wanjala had been killed," the mother stated.

Tauni’s body was moved to the Webuye County Hospital morgue where it will lay as burial preparations are done.

His family stated that the body they received was mutilated beyond recognition.

The body was taken to Webuye mortuary and some family members positively identified it as Wanjala's. Nonetheless one of them was in doubt about the identity of the body.

"People went to the mortuary to identify the body. A teacher, a businessman, and Wanjala's brother confirmed the body was his and burial plans commenced," a relative noted.

Despite the doubts that arose, the body was buried in 2021 and the family moved on only for the Wanjala to return home.

Following the sudden developments, the buried body will be exhumed and taken to Webuye morgue pending investigations.

The area police confirmed the bizarre incident and urged residents to be keen when identifying bodies to avoid confusion.

"We had received reports that a man was missing and a search was launched. The search was, however, halted when the family stated that they had found the man at the Webuye mortuary,' the Kimilili police boss Mwita Maroa reported.

The case of mistaken identity has left the family in utter confusion.
