Detectives in Embu East Sub-county have launched a manhunt for two daring men who were captured on CCTV footage casually entering a residential building and reportedly stealing electronics from four houses in broad daylight.
In the CCTV footage, the two men walked into the building in Kangari Trading Centre at around 2 pm and 30 minutes later they had successfully broken into 4 houses leaving with TV screens, laptops, and gas cylinders among other valuables.
According to police reports, the men used master keys in some of the houses and used a crowbar to forcefully gain access into other houses on Thursday, August 25.
In the well-orchestrated plan, the two men stashed their loot into a white Saloon car parked outside the residential apartment.
The area Deputy County Commissioner Jane Waruinge confirmed the incident and added that four reports had been filled by the occupants of the affected houses.
"Four occupants of the premises recorded a statement, the incident was captured on the CCTV footage but unfortunately one can not see the registration number of the vehicle used," she explained.
In addition, she said that the reports filed at the Runyenjes Police Station will aid the cops in their investigations.
Police in the area stated speculations were high that the duo was responsible for other reported cases of theft in the past.
The heinous act comes a few days after thugs in the area broke into Embu Senior Principal Magistrate Henry Nyakweba and stole electronics worth Ksh105,000.
Following the incident, Nyakweba blamed the halted Kazi Mtaani program in the area for the increased burglary and robbery cases.
According to Nyakweba, the youths under the program made note of the residents' schedules and planned attacks when the homes were empty.
