As Kenyans woke up to the tragic news of a biker who was involved in a grisly road accident on the Southern bypass over the weekend, little was known of him.
In consequent condolences messages, it was revealed that the man who met his untimely death on August 4, was civil engineer Aaron Kandia.
Unknown to many, Kandia was part of the tech hub, Kidato, and had already developed various innovations.
Kidato is run by Sam Gichuru who acts as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
"Aaron joined Kidato Inc this year as our product lead and creative director and has played an essential role in shaping our growth team.
"He came up with innovative solutions, not to mention designing all our events including the successful meet and greet treasure hunt we held on Saturday at the Kidato Campus," Gichuru eulogised his staff.
The CEO further revealed that Kandia had a passion for motorbike riding, but one that saw him meet his untimely death.
"We spoke about his love of biking and how much he enjoyed it, particularly on Sundays. He explained why he enjoyed riding, saying that he felt like a free soul as he took in the stunning scenery and felt the wind on his face," Gichuru added.
Further, it was revealed that the tech innovator has a passion for mentoring young children who have a passion for technology and education.
"I had a 1-hour meeting with Aaron on Tuesday. He shared ideas he wanted to execute for the next 12 months, from a concierge card for our students to pre-recorded classes for students who can't access our live courses.
"He wanted every child across Africa to access quality education," Gichuru added.
Notably, one of the innovations he championed was using technology to solve the traffic menace in Nairobi.
In December 2020, the engineer in an article he authored on Capital FM, stated that Nairobi and its metropolitan suburbs have over the years continued to attract the dubious distinction of being one of the most congested cities in the world.
"The main problems of traffic congestion include insufficient capacities such as lack of roads, parking slots and poor infrastructure operations, including reliance to obsolete traffic management equipment.
"Conscious of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), we need to move fast to adopt innovative solutions that can help keep us moving smoothly," he opined.
Kandia is succeeded by his wife.
