President William Ruto took oath of office as Kenya's fifth president at the Kasarani Stadium on September 13 at 12:44 pm.
Ruto was accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto who held the constitution during the oath-taking
Afterwards, his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua also took oath of office which was administered by Chief Registrar of Judiciary Anne Amadi.
I, William Samoei Ruto, in full realisation of the high calling I assume as President of the Republic of Kenya, do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Republic of Kenya;
"... that I will obey, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of Kenya as by law established and all other laws of the Republic; and that I will protect and uphold the sovereignty, integrity and dignity of the people of Kenya. So help me God," Ruto swore.
Chief Justice Martha Koome witnessed the swearing-in ceremony; Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi administered the oath.
Immediately after, the Head of State received instruments of power from his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta who handed over a copy of the 2010 Constitution of Kenya and a sword to signify a change of power from one administration to the next.
Uhuru was accompanied by former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
Ruto's inauguration saw over 70,000 people attend the Kasarani event. According to the police, the stadium was full by 5 am in the morning.
The event was also graced by Foreign Heads of State such as Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Samia Suluhu (Tanzania), Paull Kagame (Rwanda), Félix Tshisekedi (Congo) among others.
Other notable dignitaries who graced the event were African Tycoon Aliko Dangote and African Union Commission chairperson Moussa Faki.
