Eight people were arrested on Thursday evening in Nakuru County on suspicion of planning a meeting to disrupt the Jubilee rally scheduled for Saturday.
The group was nabbed at a gathering deemed not to be in the best interest of the public, a day before the rally which will be attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.
Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Wanyama Musiambo confirmed the arrest stating that enough security measures were being put in place and they would not leave anything to chance in ensuring a susccessful rally.
“Those arrested were holding an unlawful meeting at a hotel. They are being interrogated, ” Musiambo explained.
However, the suspects refuted claims that they intended to interrupt the thanks giving event, insisting that theirs was just a normal meeting and was not associated with politics.
Authorities are conducting final preparations for the prayer meeting that will be celebrating the acquittal of Kenyan leaders by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The Head of State invited all Kenyans to the rally after ICC ruled that Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang had no case to answer in crimes against humanity case.
