8 People Including a Police Officer Killed in Nairobi

Eight people were killed in Nairobi on Friday in different incidents as police stepped up the war against crime.

Among them was an officer identified as Boniface Okech of Soweto police station who was shot as he and his colleagues chased gang members said to be on a robbery spree in Kayole area.

In another incident, three suspected criminals were killed in Pangani. They are said to have been robbing residents when an alarm was raised alerting the police who were in the area.

On the same night, two men accused of engaging in a petty robbery were also gunned down in Utawala estate.

Earlier on Friday, two youth were shot dead in Eastleigh area in an incident that was caught on camera sparking allegations of extrajudicial killings.

A video circulating on social media showed one man said to be a non-uniformed officer spraying bullets on the unarmed young men eliciting mixed reactions.

However, Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome explained that the two were dangerous gangsters who had been terrorising residents in the area.

He added that they allegedly killed a police officer and two other people including a physically challenged man in a robbery incident in Kayole two weeks ago.
