President William Ruto named key allies in the Cabinet unveiled on Tuesday, September 27, at State House in Nairobi.

According to the list released by President Ruto, Garissa Township Member of Parliament Aden Duale was named as Defense Cabinet Secretary.

Duale, a vocal politician, is among the longest serving MPs in the 13th Parliament.

He was the National Assembly Majority leader during former President Uhuru Kenyatta's reign, before he was kicked out in 2020, following fallout with Ruto.

Another key ally appointed in Ruto's cabinet is former Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, who was named Trade, Investment and Industry CS.

Kuria who vied for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat in the August polls is the Party leader of Chama cha Kazi, an affiliate party of Ruto's Kenya Kwanza.

Kandara MP and a strong supporter of Ruto's Bottom, Up economic model, was appointed in the Water and Sanitation docket.

Moreover, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen landed a role to lead in the Transport and Roads docket taking over from James Macharia.

Murkomen was serving his third term as Senator, and held Majority leader's position in Senate before being kicked out by Uhuru, when he went on a de-whipping spree in 2020.

Aisha Jumwa, who was floored in the Kilifi Gubernatorial race, was appointed as Public Service CS.

Former Tharaka Nithi Senator and Ruto's lawyer Prof Abraham Kithure Kindiki, was appointed as Interior Cabinet Secretary. The powerful docket was previously held by Fred Matiangi.

Elected leaders appointed to Ruto's cabinet will have to relinquish their roles allowing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct mini-polls.

Former Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua was also named as Foreign Affairs CS.

Mithika Linturi, who Kawira Mwangaza defeated in the Meru Gubernatorial race was appointed as Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, taking over from Peter Munya.

Ababu Namwamba was also appointed as Sports and Culture Cabinet Secretary taking over from Amina Mohamed whose tenure was characterised by reforms in Kenyan football sector.
