In the new cabinet announced by President William Ruto on Tuesday, September 27, seven women featured among the 22 cabinet secretaries.
Notably, the president failed to fulfill his promise to deliver 50 per cent of women in his cabinet.

Aisha Jumwa- Public -Service Gender and Affirmative Action.
Aisha Jumwa unsuccessfully vied for the Kilifi county governor on Ruto's UDA party to Gideon Mung’aro of ODM. She is the immediate former member of parliament for Malindi.
Alice Wahome - Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation
Wahome is the Kandara constituency Member of Parliament. She is also an advocate of the High Court. She was elected MP in 2013. She also worked in the Attorney General’s Chambers as State Counsel between 1985 and 1988.
Rebecca Miano - East African community
Born in 1966, Miano is the current Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen).
Penina Malonza - Tourism
Malonza deputized governor Julius Malombe in Kitui county between 2013 and 2017.
Soipan Roselinda Tuya- Environment
Soipain Tuya served Naroka Woman Representative between 2017 and 2022.
Tuya, who holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Nairobi, is currently a nominated Senator.
Susan Nakhumicha Wafula- Health Ministry
Nakhumicha vied for the Trans Nzoia woman representative position in the 2022 general election.
Florence Bore- Labour and Social protection
Bore is former Kericho Woman Rep from 2017 to 2022. Prior to joining politics, she served as a Director at the Geothermal Development Company.
Between 1992 and 2012, Bore worked as a teacher, under the Teachers Service Commission - TSC.
Keeping the promise
Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu had stated on Saturday, September 24, that she expected the president to deliver his promise of 50 per cent.
'He promised 50 per cent 11 women in the cabinet, that we can support. Let’s wait and see," she said.
Ruto had also promised to introduce a women's rights agency to protect women from Gender Based Violence (GBV). The President has appointed Harriet Kigai as the Advisor on women's rights.
However, the president noted that he will keep updating the list of cabinet secretaries.
