Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has shared images of the refurbished Terminal 1B and IC at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) ahead of its official launch.

Among the new features introduced are enhanced security features, check-in points, and retail centres.

Additionally, the two terminals refurbished at Ksh963 million have modernised waiting areas to offer passengers a luxurious lounge experience.

From the images shared, it was revealed that the renovations were at an advanced stage with most of the features already installed.

"Thank you for being patient with us, we are almost there. A sneak peek of JKIA’s Terminals 1B&C currently being refurbished," the authority stated.

Renovations of the two terminals began in January 2021 and were scheduled to take a period of 12 months.

"Once completed, the newly renovated light-filled departure terminals will deliver modern concessions and amenities that will give travellers a friendly and memorable experience.

"It will also ease passenger flow and increase efficiency due to the centralization of security screening procedures and the reallocation of available floor spaces to international departure gates," KAA stated then.

However, the launch of the terminal was postponed given the delays that were experienced during the upliftment.

"When we were renovating, we found out that some aspects had to be added while other systems had to be replaced in its entirety," he stated.

"Also two bridges that were left hanging had to be brought down. The bridges connected two terminals to the old international terminals hence after we lost the Central building, we had to destroy the bridges," a source told Kenyans.co.ke in August 2022.
