The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of the Bunyala Roundabout to Haile Selassie Roundabout section of Uhuru Highway for three days.

According to the notice, the closure began on Friday, October 7, at 10 pm and will run until Tuesday, October 11, at 5 am.

KeNHA explained that the closure would enable contractors to uplift the section of the road.

"This closure is to pave way for the construction of two cross culverts in that section of Mombasa Road," read the notice in part.

Further, motorists intending to use the road for the three days were given alternative routes to use.

"Motorists heading towards the City Centre are advised to take Bunyala Road and Lower Hill Road towards Haile Selassie Avenue.

'We apologize for any inconveniences that may be caused as we endeavour to provide an efficient, safe and reliable road network," read the statement in part.

A spot check by Kenyans.co.ke shows that the changes were enforced early in the morning, with motorists using the part of the Mombasa Road section forced to use alternative routes.

"I was coming getting to town using Mombasa Road and at the Nyayo Stadium roundabout, the driver opted to get to town via upperhill," a commuter, Geoffrey Luttah, told Kenyans.co.ke

Police were also deployed on various sections of the road to guide motorists and man traffic.

Motorists were advised to drive with caution and observe all traffic laws.
