Kenyans have been urged to be patient with President William Ruto's administration for at least one year to begin feeling his impact.

Speaking on KTN News on October 11, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei pleaded with Kenyans to endure the harsh economic conditions being experienced in the country.

“It is a new move to impact the livelihoods of people and it is not going to be instant we have to tighten our belts, it's going to be a difficult time for the next 100 days to 12 months but Kenyans are going to see the fruits of some of the decisions in a year's time,” Shollei noted

Shollei, who was elected Uasin Gishu Woman Representative in the August polls before being elected Deputy Speaker stated that leaders need to preach to Kenyans because the pain will not go away immediately.

She also defended the President's decision to remove subsidy programs on fuel and maize flour to allow Ruto’s administration to focus on fertiliser subsidies to help increase agricultural production.

“We are facing famine, and the price of Unga is still high but in the long term, the most sustainable decision is to say let's subsidize fertiliser, increase production and then the price will naturally come down,” Shollei noted.

The deputy speaker further stated that subsidizing fuel and everything is only a short-term measure that cannot help Kenyans because it is sustainable.

"You can decide to subsidise fuel and everything but after a while, it is not sustainable and you are back to square one," Shollei noted.

Last month, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua called on Kenyans to be patient as the new administration finds a way of reviving the economy.

Gachagua has over time maintained that they inherited a dilapidated economy and that it will take some time before Kenyans are relieved.

President Ruto’s term in office started on a high as he embarked to fulfill the promises he made in his manifesto in the run-up to the elections.

During the unveiling of his manifesto, the president detailed issues he pledged to address in his first 100 days in office, among them fixing the issue of the high cost of living. However, time is moving fast with little signs of the issue being addressed.

Additionally, Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo stated that Azimio will have a proper team to check the government of the day and ensure Kenyans are served better.
