President William Ruto on Friday, October 14, appointed Amin Mohamed Ibrahim as the new Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigations - DCI, after a rigorous screening exercise.
The new DCI boss, who succeeds George Kinoti, outwitted nine other candidates for the job, proving that he was the indomitable figure needed to take over from former DCI boss, George Kinoti.
According to the remuneration and benefits, review by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) for the financial year 2022/2023, Amin will take home a basic salary of Ksh372,750 and a gross salary of Ksh621,250.
In addition, he will receive a Ksh100,000 house allowance and a salary market adjustment of Ksh148,500.
The salary adjustment takes into account market positioning and constitutional and statutory principles on reviews of remuneration and benefits.
Amin will also be provided with an official government vehicle with an engine capacity not exceeding 3,000cc.
The DCI boss also enjoy an annual medical cover of Ksh10 million (inpatient), Ksh300,000 (outpatient), Ksh150,000 (maternity), Ksh75,000 (dental) and Ksh75,000 for optical.
In terms of group life insurance, he shall be covered for a value equivalent to three times the annual pensionable emoluments.
He shall also be granted a daily subsistence allowance for local and foreign travels, airtime of Ksh20,000 per month, an annual leave allowance at the rate of Ksh50,000 per annum and a special responsibility allowance.
Prior to his appointment as DCI boss, Amin was the Senior Assistant Inspector General at the Internal Affairs Unit.
The 58-year-old began to hone his craft in the police service when he served as a Police Inspector. Part of his work involved prosecuting all offenders, maintaining criminal records, profiling offenders, and collecting criminal intelligence.
Further, he served in different positions at the DCI, including at the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit, Head of Investigations in the investigations bureau, and Regional Coordinator of North Eastern Region.
In his decorated career he has served as a chief Inspector, Superintendent of Police, Head of Surveillance and Technical Services, and the Senior Superintendent of Police at the Anti-Corruption Police Unit in Nairobi.
