Nairobi Named Africa's Best Business Travel Destination

Nairobi has maintained its position as Africa's silicon valley after defending its title as the continent's leading business destination.

Kenya's capital was named Africa's Leading Business Destination on Saturday, October 15, during the  2022 Word Travel Awards held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Senator Edwin Sifuna received the ward on behalf of the city and congratulated other winners at the event.

"Congratulations to all the Winners at the 29th Annual World Travel Awards. Many Kenyan Hospitality players won and of course our city won best Business Travel Destination!" Sifuna remarked.

KICC Chief Executive Nana Gecaga received a trophy on behalf of the centre, which topped the Leading Meetings and Conference Centre category.

“We are humbled to get such great recognition three years in a row. The awards are once againan indication of the outstanding efforts by the Kenyan M.I.C.E and Business Events Sector to Position the country as a preferred destination for business events,” Gecaga stated.

National carrier Kenya Airways scooped three awards in the airline category bagging the Leading Airlines, Leading Airlines-Business Class, and Leading Airline Brand trophies.

Kenya emerged as the best travel destination with the Port of Mombasa deemed the best dock for cruise ships.

The Four Points by Sheraton, Nairobi was feted as the best airport hotel in Africa. However, the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) was dethroned as the leading airport by Cape Town International Airport (CPT).

Fairmont Mount Kenya was placed as the leading hotel and sister facility while sister facility, Fairmont The Norfolk was recognised as the best city hotel.

The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries

Other winners include Swahili Beach, Billionaire Resort and Retreat, Ol Pajeta Conservancy, Baobab Beach Resort and Spa, Aberdare Country Club.

Msafiri Magazine, Jambojet, Sirai House, Olare Mara Kempinski, Manda Bay, Somerset Westview, Ocean Sports Resort,  and Finch Hattons completed the list of Kenyan franchices awarded.
