Trade Cabinet Secretary nominee, Moses Kuria on Tuesday, October 18, revealed his sources of income and pegged his net worth at Ksh750 million.

Appearing before the National Assembly's committee on appointments, Kuria revealed that his wealth was from multiple businesses in various sectors including manufacturing, fintech and the energy sector.

"My net worth comprises of real estate development and shares held in unrelated companies in manufacturing, fintech and energy sector."

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, however, put him to task over shares he holds at petroleum dealers.

"Not to interrupt but he is the chairman of petroleum dealers, so how many shares are there?" he posed.

"I'll say as much but honourable Junet is one of my share members so I welcome that," Kuria responded.

National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula interjected in the matter and affirmed that both politicians may be required to disclose their shares and figures in the companies.

"We may require both of you to disclose those figures," Wetangula stated.

During the vetting process, Kuria was put to task to explain his perceived divisive nature in politics and how it would affect his role should he be approved by the vetting committee.

"Any perceived extremism or divisiveness on my side has been shaped by the kind of political culture we have had. Going forward, I am going to play my role in ensuring that we have a culture where political competition is not enmity," he noted.

The vetting process continued as President William Ruto's Cabinet Secretary nominees were placed on the hot seat as they faced the National Assembly vetting Committee. Part of the requirement involves declaring one's net worth as mandated by law.

Kithure Kindiki (Interior) revealed a net worth of Ksh544 million, Njuguna Ndung'u (National Treasury) Ksh950 million, Aisha Jumwa (Public Service) Ksh100 million and Davis Chirchir (Energy and Petroleum) Ksh482 million.
