Four individuals were on Wednesday, October 19, arrested in connection with the murder of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official Daniel Musyoka.

Musyoka, prior to his demise, served as the Embakasi East Constituency Returning Officer during the August General Election.

Reports indicated that the police tracked down the cell phone of the deceased to Kisii, where it had been sold to a woman.

The authorities added that the mobile phone had been formatted before the sale. They all traded in the phone repair business. The woman was turned into a witness noting that she had used the phone for a month.

Musyoka's body was discovered in a thicket at Amboseli Park on Monday, August 15

The IEBC official first went missing on August 11, approximately three days after Kenyans headed to the polls.

Investigations at the time indicated that Musyoka was killed elsewhere before his body was dumped in the forest. The body had visible signs of torture and struggle.

In a subsequent statement following his demise, IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati noted that Musyoka’s perpetrators were upset by his refusal to compromise his integrity.

“The commission is saddened by the murder of its Returning Officer for Embakasi East Constituency and expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends, "read the statement in part.

"We condemn the murder of Musyoka, who went missing on August 11, 2022. Just like Msando (Chris), Musyoka was murdered while on duty. It is unfortunate that his stand to do the right thing cost his life," Chebukati stated at the time.

An autopsy carried out on his body later ascertained that the deceased was strangled to death leading to a probe into his mysterious death.

Investigations are still ongoing.
