Most homeowners and real estate developers struggle with understanding how to get legal electricity connections for their houses just after completing the construction process.

With the struggles, others fall prey to fraudsters while several others end up with illegal connections attracting penalties from Kenya Power.

However, according to Kenya Power, the process of applying for electricity connection is simple and direct.

However, in the review process, the utility firm may repossess non-vending and zero-vending meters installed to houses.

"As part of its normal business operations, Kenya Power is continuously reviewing its customer and asset database to identify ways of optimising its resources. One of the outcomes of this process is the recovery of meters that have been inactive for a period of six months, which we re-allocate to active customers to ensure that the business makes a return on all its assets," Kenya Power stated.

But to raise the number of postpaid customers, Kenya Power introduced self-reading meters available on the USSD Code *977#. This is where they can register to read their meters at the end of their billing cycle and submit the readings for accurate billing.

Customers can also use the platform to report power outages for quick resolution, confirm the authenticity of persons presenting themselves to them as Kenya Power staff as well as track the progress of their connectivity application.
