Sandy Momanyi, a 21-year-old student at Meru University and a bone cancer survivor, has continued to warm hearts and inspire millions of viewers with her creative Tik Tok dance videos.

In October 2022, one of her dance videos on Tik Tok went viral, courting the attention of many East African music stars, Diamond Platnumz and Zuchu. The two hitmakers shared her videos, winning her plaudits.

While speaking to Citizen TV, on Friday, October 22, Sandy noted that her leg was amputated after medics discovered a cancerous lump in her knee.

According to the accounting and finance student, she was first advised to apply some topical medication on the lump, which continued swelling, prompting her to seek further medical attention.

It was after pursuing further medical attention that she was informed of the gravity of her situation.

The diagnosis was followed by a series of chemotherapies which, according to her, did not contribute much towards her healing.

"I first went to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), where they did a (CT) Computed Tomography scan and chest abdomen analysis.

"They found out that the illness had already spread to the chest. That's when they told me I had to be on chemotherapy to clear the nodules," she told Citizen TV.

Eventually, Sandy was advised to undergo an amputation which neither she nor her family was ready to approve. However, after a couple of guidance and counselling sessions, they both resolved to follow the doctor's medication.

Life after the amputation, Sandy stated, was never easy to cope with. However, her close engagements with specialists and close kin helped her adjust to the new reality.

Sandy resorted to accepting the situation and living her life to the fullest. She embarked on social media activities to encourage fellow amputees to withstand the stigma and depression they constantly face.

The Tik Tok sensation has since vowed to continue with her social media activities to encourage amputees and Kenyans at large.

She, however, pleaded with well-wishers to aid her in raising funds to secure a prosthetic limb.

“I need to buy the limb to walk and return to school to finish my course. I also need to swim and enjoy my hobbies," she stated.
