The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has accused Meru governor, Kawira Mwangaza of grossly violating Chapter Six of the Constitution by appointing her spouse, Murega Baicu, to two county jobs.
In a letter addressed to the Meru governor, EACC Chief Executive, Twalib Mbarak pointed out that Baicu was appointed as youth service patron and ambassador for hustlers in the county.
Mbarak raised concerns about Baicu attending official county functions and delegating duties despite not being a public officer.
EACC took issue with the appointment even with Mwangaza confirming that her spouse would work for free within the county.
In addition, Mwangaza is also accused of employing two of her sisters whereby one as a personal assistant and another as her security personnel.
Mbarak noted that the issue would create a conflict of interest, which contravenes the constitutional mandate on the appointment of a state officer.
The county boss is also accused of directing county employees to use their social media accounts to heap praises on her administration.
Another allegation leveled against her was employing her acting director of communication as well as her cleaners in county roles.
Further, the EACC warned Homa Bay governor, Gladys Wanga for appointing 11 advisors, 10 of whom were deployed to her county government office.
Wanga is also accused of creating six positions of liaison officers and four positions in the governor's delivery unit. The anti-graft agency affirmed that the mandate should be reserved for the county public service board.
In a rejoinder, Wanga stated that she had consulted the county public service board prior to making the appointments.
Mwangaza's woes continue to mount days after she faced antagonism from Members of County Assembly (MCAs) who walked out on her inaugural address.
The MCAs snubbed her speech and walked out on grounds that she frustrated their efforts to access her office. Mwangaza however defended herself, claiming that she had visited 20 wards and was accompanied by the respective MCAs on each tour.
