Former Radio Africa journalist Charles Kerich could be on his way back to City Hall after his nomination by Nairobi Governor Johson Sakaja as the County Executive Committee Member for Economics and Finance.
Kerich has been a manifestation of a man with nine lives having bounced back from a previous suspension to holding various positions at the county government.
His first assignment at City Hall came in 2017 when he was first appointed as a member of CEC for ICT and E-Government executive in Governor Mike Sonko’s government.
He was later transferred to the Lands and Urban planning in 2018 in a reshuffle. The nominee also had a stint as the CEC member in charge of Finance and health in an acting capacity.
His profile as a CEC member steadily rose, subsequently earning him elevation in Governor Sonko’s government to the rank of Super CEC in 2019.
Kerich was tasked with overseeing 10 sectors in the county government and steering the operations of the government in planning and implementing programmes.
Nonetheless, he found himself on the receiving end in 2018, when he was suspended from the position after an accident which left eight students dead.
Sonko had vowed to go after rogue officials at the department of physical planning and lands whom he blamed for laxity in their mandate. He was however reinstated to the CEC by the former governor.
Kerich holds a Master's Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from the University of Nairobi.
Prior to his appointment as a member of CEC, Kerich was a journalist in various companies including Royal Media and Radio Africa Group.
If approved, Kerich will serve closely with the governor and his deputy in steering the implementation of the county government's agenda. The governor submitted his name, among those of other nominees, for consideration by the County Assembly.
The finance docket is charged with the role of planning and allocating the budget to the various programmes of the government.
Also included in the composition of the government s the Hustlers Opportunities, which will be under the docket of the deputy governor.
