A class seven girl on Friday, October 28, reported her mother to the police in Kajiado for allegedly killing her new born baby and dumping the body in her house for three months.

In the formal report OB No.27/28/10/2022 filed at Kajiado Police Station, the girl informed the police that her mother reportedly killed the infant and placed the body in a plastic bucket.  The 14-year old girl said that her mother then filled the plastic bucket with water and hid it under her bed.

In an unsettling narration to the police, the tearfully girl divulged that their house in Majengo slums became inhabitable due the foul smell.

She narrated how she intended to cover up for the mother's henious act but the smell become unbearable.

"I have been unable to live in our house due to the odour coming from the decomposing body," she told police officers.

A team of police officers from Kajiado visited the scene of the crime on Saturday and discovered the decomposing body of the infant in a bucket full of water under the bed.

Police reports indicate that the 34-year-old woman is suspected to have suffocated the infant to death.

Confirming the incident, Kajiado Central Sub-county Police Commander Daudi Loronyokwe said the woman will be taken to the hospital for mental assessment and general medical examination before being arraigned in court on Monday as police launch investigations into the bizarre incident.

The infant’s body has been moved to Kajiado Referral Hospital mortuary.

According to neighbors in Majengo slums, the suspect is an introvert who was rarely seen during the day in the estate.

Cases of children being killed by the people entrusted to care for them are common in Kenya. The most recent case follows another case in which a woman was arrested by the DCI for torturing a three-year-old boy to death in March.

Loronyokwe urged parents to seek help when they are not able to deal with their children's issues instead of resorting to committing such heinous acts.

Counsellors, medics, and psychologists advise that you can always reach out for help when experiencing any mental health issues. Call Kenya Red Cross toll-free hotline, 1199, for support.
