Taita Taveta Member of Parliament, John Bwire, beat the odds after he floored the long-serving veteran politician Naomi Shaban in the 2022 general election.
In his first stab at elective politics, Bwire outclassed Shaban, who had been serving for two decades.
Before vacating the seat, Shaban had major wins within the political scene dating back from 2002, when she began her political career as an elected MP under the KANU ticket.
In 2007, Shaban defended her seat and was appointed as a Minister for Special Programmes . Later in 2010, she was appointed as Gender and Children Affairs docket's minister, in the then President Mwai Kibaki's government.
In 2013, she ran under The National Alliance - TNA party and retained her seat before securing another win in 2017 but on a Jubilee Ticket. It was not until 2022 that the politician was ousted by a budding Advocate John Bwire.
Born in Kachero in Jipe, Mata Ward, John began his studies at Jipe Primary School in Taita Taveta and after joined Kenyatta High school in the same region for his secondary school studies.
Upon completion, Bwire pursued a degree in Law from Moi University in 2009 and later completed a postgraduate in Advocates Training program at the Kenya School of Law in 2012.
While still in school, he worked with the Mombasa law courts as a legal clerk before joining M. Ananda & Company Advocates as an intern in 2009.
The advocate worked with different law firms within the area and after, founded John Bwire & Associates Advocates.
He also worked with Kithi & Company advocates, Nchogu, Omwanza & Nyasimi Advocates. Bwire has also partnered with schools like Kenyatta Primary School in Taita as a board member to help advocate rights for children's education.
The advocate joined Tavevo Water & sewerage company limited before venturing into elective politics.
