Azimio leader Raila Odinga on Saturday, November 5, warned Chief Justice over a plan by President William Ruto to compromise the independence of the Judiciary.
Speaking in Kilifi County, Raila asked Koome to read into the plan by Ruto to mend the relationship between the executive and judiciary terming it a grand scheme to take over the judiciary.
He argued that Kenyans will bear the brunt of a manipulated judicial system if the CJ cedes the independence of the crucial institution that she leads.
"The marriage between the executive and judiciary is unlawful. Even without the judiciary asking for salary increments or funding, they already offered them Ksh3 billion, which is just a bribe.
"If you witness such a cordial relationship between the government and the courts, then it is a threat to the human rights in the Constitution," Odinga declared.
The opposition chief further castigated Koome over the language used by the Supreme Court when it delivered its ruling on the election petition.
"The other day, they ridiculed us by saying that the terms they used were simple English. Even if that were the case, how do you use such words (in a petition ruling)? That it is an insult," Odinga complained.
In addition, he reiterated his demands to Ruto to employ the services of international investigative agencies to probe extrajudicial killings in the country.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula, who was in neighbouring Tana River county defended the president stating that local authorities had the capacity to investigate the cases.
Wetangula insisted that the profiling and abductions of Kenyans by officers of the disbanded Special Service Unit (SSU) was unlawful and that perpetrators needed to be brought to book.
Notably, he stated that residents needed to partner with the police in flushing out criminals from their hideouts.
