A school in Homa Bay county is benefiting directly from Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino's, online mathematics classes.
Mirogi Boarding School, a public primary school in Homa Bay, has been live-streaming Babu Owino’s master classes for class seven and eight pupils.
The exercise was facilitated by Consolata Luteshi, the headteacher, and coordinated by Amos Otieno, a senior mathematics teacher.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, on Tuesday, November 8, Otieno stated that he has been following Owino’s classes for a while and was excited about the MP's programme targeting KCPE candidates.
“I have been following Babu Owino’s online classes. Before, he used to teach the Form Four classes, but when I saw he was to handle KCPE, I thought it was prudent for my pupils to tune in,” teacher Amos told Kenyans.co.ke.
“I was particularly interested because he had promised to talk about KCPE exam setting and how to tackle the questions,” he added.
Otieno added that the pupils benefitted directly. Some of them had trouble with solving sums involving BODMAS and fractions, but there was significant improvement after the class.
“It is more about getting an external perspective and especially from someone Babu Owino who is renowned public figure,” Otieno commented on the improvement.
The online class also widened the dreams of the pupils, who were inspired by Babu Owino's success and political career.
Otieno felt that most schools could benefit from the MP’s program if properly facilitated.
“The classes consume a lot of internet bundles and it might be a challenge to most schools. In our case, we are grateful that Consolata Luteshi, our headteacher, facilitated the whole exercise,” he noted.
“Babu Owino should consider dispatching Mathematics experts to all counties so that more pupils can benefit from this noble exercise," he prayed.
Otieno further encouraged Babu to continue with the same spirit, stating that he was a mentor to youth across the country.
"Pupils are falling in love with mathematics and school in general because of the good work he is doing," the teacher noted.
