A National Youth Service (NYS) private, Dickson Loyerer, has explained why he cleaned Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba's shoes after the incident drew backlash from Kenyans.
While meeting with Ababu at his office on Tuesday, November 8, the NYS officer explained he cleaned the shoes as a matter of procedure.
He stated that NYS officers are trained to rectify the wardrobe malfunctions of their seniors citing the CS shoes were dirty after a tree planting exercise.
Further at the meeting, the officer noted that Ababu's tie had not been fastened properly even though he stated he had to fix it.

"I looked at your shoes and I saw some dirt. I then decided that I must clean your shoes because when our boss has dirt somewhere, we have to correct it.
"The cleaning of shoes is some of the skills we are taught. Additionally, when our bosses have a wardrobe malfunction, we have to correct it," he stated
On his part, Ababu stated that he was touched by the officer's training crediting NYS for training all-around officers.
"I am very happy that NYS is training you on things to do with cleaning, and technical skills among others," remarked the CS.
The Sports CS offered Loyerer a job in his office expressing his trust in the officer's competence.
However, he did not explain the position Loyerer would take up in his office.
"Today we shared a cup of tea in my office, where he gave me NYS tips on grooming, discipline and skills. I have requested Loyerer to join my staff," he stated.
The duo met after a section of Kenyans called out the CS after the video that captured the incident went viral.
