Samburu West Member of Parliament Naisula Lesuuda was on Thursday, November 10, elected to serve as the Vice Chairman of the Public Investments Committee Governance and Education committee.
The second term lawmaker stated that she was elected alongside Chairman Jack Wamboka. Her Kanu party also congratulated the legislator.
"Grateful to be unanimously elected to serve as the Vice Chairman of PIC Governance and Education committee alongside the Chairman Chairman Jack Wamboka. Congratulations looking forward to serving diligently," she stated.
The PIC was established in accordance with Standing Order No. 206's provisions, and its mandate is to assess how well public investments are performing.
There is a chairperson and a maximum of sixteen more members. From among its members, the Committee chooses a chairperson and vice-chairperson.
The committee has a three-year mandate, and any successor committees are appointed to serve out the remaining months of the current legislative session.
The Committee's duties roles: checking the public investments' reports and accounts, reviewing any Auditor General reports on public investments if any are available, and examining whether the affairs of the public investments are being managed in line with solid financial or business principles and cautious commercial practices in the context of the autonomy and efficiency of the public investments.
The following topics are off-limits to the Committee:
A public investment's business or commercial functions are distinct from matters of significant government policy, daily administration, and matters for the consideration of the machinery that is established by any special statute under which a specific public investment is established.
Lesuuda retained her seat after being declared the winner with 15,855 votes in the August general election.
“I have been elected by the people of Samburu West and that is the spirit of democracy and I pledge to uphold that spirit,” she stated.
Before winning the parliamentary seat in 2017, the former journalist served as a nominated Senator in 2013.
