President William Ruto is set to launch the construction of the Ksh1 billion Kabonyo Fisheries Aquaculture Service and Training Centre of Excellence in Kisumu County.

On Thursday, November 10, the Cabinet approved the project and highlighted the need to establish structures for the sustainable use of Kenya's maritime resources.

State Houses affirmed that the centre will facilitate training, research, innovation, and best practices in Fisheries and Aquaculture through demonstrations and incubations.

The Kabonyo seminal project will also include the development of a Nile Perch Technology and Innovation Centre, an Aquaculture Resource Centre, and the Kenya Fishing School.

"It will also involve adoption, domestication, and selective breeding of Nile Perch, Common Carp, Milk Fish, Tilapia, and Catfish to increase the numbers available to small and large-scale fish farmers," State House noted.

At the centre, complimentary sources of production of raw materials for animal feeds and fertilizer will also be facilitated.

President William Ruto promised to complete all pending development projects in the Nyanza region.

The head of state underlined that his government would be inclusive of all, despite the region aligning with its kingpin, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In October 2022, he launched the construction of affordable housing projects in Homa Bay County

Speculations were rife since the tour, with regional leaders claiming that the head of state was wooing the residents to support him in 2027.

Former Nairobi governor, Evans Kidero, also alleged that Ruto would offer a state role to his perennial rival and opposition leader, Raila

Speaking to K24 TV on Tuesday, November 8, Kidero argued that Raila was a statesman who had sacrificed a lot for the country and the African continent.

“President Ruto said that a special role is carved out for elders. Uhuru (Former President Uhuru Kenyatta) is already playing his (peacekeeping role).

"We saw him in Rwanda and Ethiopia,” Kidero opined.
