The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) on Tuesday, November 15 warned of high rainfall in most parts of the country.
In its weather forecast for five days running from November 15 to 19, KMD stated that there will be poor spatial distribution in the Coast, the South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
Further, isolated storms are likely to occur in some parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, the Coast and North-eastern Kenya.
For the five days, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Central and South Rift Valley (Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Transnzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot Counties) will have Rains over few places in the morning, showers and thunderstorms over several places in the afternoon and showers over few places at night.
North-western counties (Turkana and Samburu) will experience rainfall in the mornings of Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Tuesday afternoon and the nights of Friday and Saturday.
The statement further stated that the counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley [including Nairobi County] (Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi Counties) will experience rainfall for the entire five days.
North-eastern counties (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo) will also experience rainfall for the five days apart from Friday morning that will have Sunny intervals and the nights of Wednesday and Thursday that will be partly cloudy.
The South-eastern lowlands (Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties) will have rainfall in all five days apart from Friday morning that will experience Sunny intervals.
Coast counties (Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale) will also experience high rainfall for almost all five days apart from Tuesday and Thursday nights which will be partly cloudy.
The rains will be a relief to most Kenyans hit by the ravaging drought, that has seen livestock and wildlife die. Millions of people are also staring at severe starvation.
President William Ruto put in place response measures to mitigate the effects of the drought, including distribution of relief food in hardest-hit areas and setting a side funds for the same.
Members of the public especially those living in the mentioned counties are urged to prepare adequately for the five days.
