The heavy rains currently being witnessed around the country have left many estates flooded and property destroyed.

Residents of Nairobi have particularly been affected as roads and estates become submerged in flood water after torrential rains.

Photos doing rounds - said to be those of an estate in Syokimau area shows building, cars and parking lot engulfed in water. The cars sitting in the parking lot can be seen covered in water, while pavements completely submerged.

The estate also experienced floods in December 2019 following heavy rains that were witnessed all over the country. It was the same case in 2015 with residents left counting losses after water swept away their property.

Apartments in Syokimau, Athi River, and major parts of Kitengela have been affected by floods caused by heavy rains pounding the country.

In 2018, the up-market Green Park estate in Athi River flooded after Stoni Athi River burst its banks. The developers were accused of building on riparian land but dismissed the claims before Justice Oscar Angote.

Roads and estates in Nairobi have been become inaccessible after heavy rains were experienced throughout Saturday night. The rains have left many families stranded and unable to commute.

Motorist and cyclists have not been spared either. Many cars including school buses have also been affected by the rains due to the in accessible roads. A video seen by Kenyans.co.ke shows school children alighting from their school bus after it got stuck in Utawala, Nairobi.

Kenyans on twitter have urged the government to fix the 3 Km Kincar-Airways Zebra road in Utawala which often becomes impassable whenever it rains.

According to the weather man, rainfall is expected to continue over the highlands east of Rift Valley (Nairobi is included here), the lake basin region, the highlands west of Rift Valley, the central and south Rift Valley and the south-eastern lowlands until Tuesday.
