The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) has warned Kenyan job seekers against falling for fake adverts purporting that the authority is hiring.

AFA Acting Director General Beatrice Nyamwamu, made the announcement in a notice released on Tuesday, November 15.

"It has come to our attention that there are unscrupulous fraudsters misleading members of the public that Agriculture and Food Authority is currently employing Agricultural Extension Officers,"  the statement read in part.

According to the statement, the fraudsters are going as far as issuing fake appointment letters to the unsuspecting applicants at a fee.

The authority indicated that it has already reported the matter to the police and investigations are already underway to nab the culprits.

"Please be advised that AFA is not currently employing,"  Nyamwamu indicated in the statement.

Further, the authority advised Kenyans that whenever employment opportunities arise within the authority, AFA will have them advertised in mainstream print media and the authority's website.

Cases of fake job advertisements that end up swindling unsuspecting Kenyans have been on the rise in recent times.

However, there are several strategies that Kenyans can use to spot and effectively avoid fake job advertisements.

For instance, fake job adverts are likely to have a high salary offer, with no real requirements to apply; ask for money upfront; and pressure you to start quickly.

In addition, fake job adverts are likely to have glaring grammatical errors with no real physical address.

Job seekers should also check the email address. Official and genuine ads have company of government emails that bear website domain like go(dot)ke or (dot)org. Yahoo and Gmail employers are likely to be con artists.

Before applying for any job advert, it is important to check out the website of the organization offering the job opportunities to verify the advert.
