A video of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja engaging a deaf woman using sign language went viral on Wednesday, November 16.

Sakaja, who was seemingly surprised by the not-so-familiar sign language greetings, had to stop to have a chat with the unidentified woman.

The woman confidently approached the governor before starting off a sign language conversation.

"Hello Sir! How are you?," the woman demonstrated in sign language.

Sajaka surprised those who flanked him as he toured Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) as he appeared to master the sign language.

Responding to the greetings, Sakaja replied in kind, and the conversation began in earnest - forcing the him to stop for a while.

"I'm fine, and how are you doing?" Sakaja responded.

The two then got into a quick question and answer session, in which the governor told her that he is on his way to 'some place.'

Governor Sakaja wasn't very specific on where he was going to but the woman noted that she was on her way to work.

The video sparked mixed reactions from Kenyans online, with some praising the Governor for showing kindness to a stranger.

"My favorite governor so far -- an orator by every measure of the word.

"He has a brilliant future in politics. When you’re walking in your purpose and have identified your gift, even malice can’t hold you back," one Daniel Wauna noted.

Since taking over as City Hall boss, Sakaja has attracted praise and criticism in equal measure on how he addresses issues affecting Nairobians.

On November 5, Governor Sakaja took his time and responded to a viral tweet calling on him to clear a 15-year-old garbage in the city.

On Friday, November 4, a tweep with the pseudonym ‘Honey Farsafi’ asked her followers to help her reach out to Sakaja, who was urged to dig out a sprawling hill of waste and clear the stench affecting Korogocho slum residents.

Sakaja responded a day later and cleared the garbage as requested.
