A Member of Kericho County Assembly, Paul Chirchir on the evening of Wednesday, November 16, clarified reports that they were to spend over Ksh2 million shillings at Weston hotel.

In an interview with KTN's News, Chirchir explained that the report was false and that whoever circulated it had a malicious motive.

He also stated that mainstream media was to blame for making the letter go viral without seeking right of reply from the assembly.

Chirchir questioned why it was wrong for the Kericho County Assembly to visit Weston hotel simply  because it is linked to President William Ruto.

“If we were going to Weston why would it be a problem, why would mainstream media pick and say the county assembly of  Kericho will go to Ruto's Weston hotel, why not Weston, why bring the name of the president?" he questioned.

"Whoever took the letter and circulated it did not have good intentions it was meant to achieve a negative objective,” the MCA uttered.

The politician stated that before a report is made public from the county, it has to go through a thorough process. He clarified that the viral letter was still a draft that was yet to be approved as the final version.

“The county assembly of Kericho just like other county assemblies has channels and procedures for communication. Before a process is completed I initiate a request, it goes to the clerk then to the speaker, and then start a process of procurement so before that, it is not a complete process,” Chirchir expounded.

The MCA made it clear that it is normal for county assemblies all over the country to hold meetings in various hotels without putting into consideration who owns the facility.

“We usually have meetings in hotels. We can go any part of the country like Kisumu, Nairobi and Mombasa just like other county assemblies,” he noted.

The letter sought facilitation of all members of Kericho county assembly to Nairobi based Weston Hotel from November 15, 2022, to November 20, 2022.

The the MCAs were to undergo training ahead of the vetting of County Chief Officer nominees.

The assembly was said to have approved a budget estimated to be over Ksh2 million shillings.
