There was drama at the Nakuru Central Police Station after a suspect engaged a police officer in a fistfight following a heated confrontation.
In a video that went viral on Thursday, November 17, a police officer is seen slapping a man who is in a group before he retaliated and slapped the officer then a fight ensued.
After the abrupt slap, the suspect dropped his phone which is picked up by another person at the station.
The incident sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans, most questioning how such lawlessness can occur at a police station as officers watched from a distance.
Others were mesmerised by how little members of the public at the police station were bothered by the fight between the two men.
Interestingly, a man in the background of the over one-minute video is heard laughing and lauding the head-on approach of the suspect.
After the fight, a police officer approaches the civilian with threats noting, "I tell you this, you won't get out of here."
"What have I done for you to slap me? I'll pay the bail money," the civilian responded.
Nakuru County Police Commander, Peter Mwanzo confirmed the incident noting that the matter was under investigation.
"The incident happened at the Nakuru Central Police Station. I have asked the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) to share details of the incident so that I can understand what exactly happened," Mwanzo told Nation.
"The man and others had arrived to report a crime when the incident happened," he added.
According to Mwanzo, the man was arrested and put in police custody as investigations continue.
The incident came barely days after an altercation between two police officers at the Kamukunji Police Station captured on CCTV in broad daylight.
From the footage, a plain-clothe officer entered the station and hit his colleague in uniform causing him to lose balance.
