Kenyans came together on Tuesday evening, November 22, in aid of a family in Nyamang'ara Gatundu, Kiambu, that was living a devastating life.

Mary Nyambura, a mother of four, couldn't hide her excitement after her sick son was rescued from G.K Prison in Thika, where he had been detained for failing to pay a cash bail of Ksh20,000.

The online donations that were conducted by philanthropist cum musician Karangu Muraya raised over Ksh 100K from wellwishers.

For more than two months, the youth (John) was in Thika Prison because his family couldn't afford Ksh20,000 cash bail. The other three who were caught with him are out with cash bail.

"John and 3 others were charged with stealing scrap metals. He said he was doing it to feed his family,” stated Muraya.

Muraya announced that the donations kept rising after Kenyans sympathised with the family, which resided in a dilapidated house.

In photos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, parts of the mud-built house were covered with sacks, while others had very wide openings.

“Whenever it rains, water gets into the house, and my children are always suffering from chest problems due to the cold that we are exposed to at night,” Nyambura explained.

Following Muraya’s plea, a member of parliament from Kiambu county pledged to help the family construct a new house.

“This beautiful woman Nominated Member of Parliament from Kiambu County, Hon Trizah Wanjiru Mwangi, has promised to build a nice home for mama John from Gatundu North starting next week Monday,” Muraya announced on his social media pages.

Nyambura’s situation was also featured on Kameme TV as she pleaded with Kenyans to help her come out of her sad state.

During the interview, she revealed that the husband and her were struggling to provide for the family.

Her daughter Joan Muthoni also risked missing her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) owing to a Ksh 500 school fees arrears.

After the interview, Kenyans tagged Muraya in the story asking him to help the family raise funds.

"I have seen so many people tagging me on this post, though I have so many projects at the moment, I feel she deserves our help, and I will be looking forward to visiting her soon.

"Also I have been informed that she doesn't have a phone so, I will tell you where you will channel your support once she gets her own phone. By the grace of God, tomorrow if all goes well I will visit and pay the cash bail of her son who is in prison," he stated.
