Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has revealed that certain individuals close to President William Ruto are pushing for a fallout with his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
Kahiga , who is also Gachagua's home governor made the claims days after stating that the outcome of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) was a warning shot for Kenya Kwanza.
"When you hear noise, it is because there could be one or two people around the president who are trying to portray a wrong picture of his deputy," Kahiga stated.
The governor warned that the vote-rich region had a choice to rethink its position in the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition if it was taken for granted.
Kahiga asked the ruling coalition to respect Central Kenya legislators’ decision to rally behind Azimio's Kanini Kega to join the regional assembly.
The county boss was vocal in castigating the Kenya Kwanza outfit for failing to nominate a leader from Mt Kenya to the EALA, forcing Gachagua to intervene, affirming the coalition's unity.
Gachagua dismissed claims that there was any rift in the alliance, citing that the region was solidly behind President Ruto.
Kahiga rallied Nyeri and the entire region behind Gachagua for him to deliver his economic transformative agenda together with President Ruto.
"As we speak, Rigathi is in charge of the country because his boss is in Korea serving Kenya. Let us not take it for granted
To support the president we must make his deputy strong because you all know when a fire breaks out it mostly lands on number two in the office. So continue praying for him," the county chief reiterated.
The second in command, however, blamed the media for creating a rift where there was none, opining that what happened in the August house had nothing to do with the President or himself.
Kega on Wednesday November 23, declared Gachagua as the kingpin in Mount Kenya, who was wise in uniting the region.
"Rigathi did well in uniting us, this is the only senior leader we have in Mt Kenya. We need to rally behind him as a region," Kega stated.
While attending a church service in Nyeri on Sunday, November 20, he rallied the region behind Ruto.
“I want to request Kenyans, let us continue supporting His Excellency President William Ruto as the government works round the clock to ensure it has delivered its promises to the people as we continue spreading the gospel of peacekeeping in Mt Kenya region,” he stated.
