Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Raila Odinga, issued a raft of demands on the ouster of the four dissenting Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissioners (IEBC).

Speaking on Thursday, November 24, Raila asked the four IEBC commissioners to boycott the summons from the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC).

The opposition chief noted that the petitions lacked concrete grounds to warrant the impeachment of IEBC vice chair, Juliana Cherera and three other commissioners, Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit and Justus Ny'angaya.

He termed the move unconstitutional and a plot by the ruling coalition to settle scores against the four.

Raila also warned the country against an impending establishment of dictatorial rule under the leadership of President William Ruto.

The opposition chief vowed to oppose any move to victimize holders of constitutional offices for political expediency in his oversight role.

"We want to warn this regime that we will not sit back and watch a return of the Nyayo regime.

"The injustice being inflicted on IEBC commissioners will mark the beginning of a massive pushback against the Ruto regime and those who think like him."

His words were echoed by Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua who noted that she was committed to maintaining vigilance as well as opposing any attempt to establish a dictatorial system of governance.

"We will not tire to remind Kenyans that if we drop our vigilance, we are in for a ruthless dictator than we have ever seen and that has not been witnessed in this region," Karua stated.

Also present in the presser was Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and scholar, Makau Mutua.

The Azimio la Umoja leaders spoke after attending the first hearing of the petitions seeking to impeach the four commissioners.

The embattled commissioners, through their lawyers, claimed that they were unaware of the charges levelled against them.
