The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), on Thursday, November 24, announced changes to teachers' examinations throughout 2023.
In a statement, the council disclosed that the changes affected seven teacher education examinations, including Upgrade Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (UDPTE), Upgrade Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (UDECTE) and Certificate in Primary Teacher Education (PTE) for candidates referred in previous years.
Other examinations are Teacher Certificate for Adult Education (TCAE), Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE), Diploma in Special Needs Education (SNE) and Diploma and Certificate in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) for repeaters only.
In the directive, all candidates who were previously referred in ECDE (Certificate and Diploma level), PTE, TCAE, DTE and SNE examinations are eligible to register for the referred subject(s) during the registration period for the 2023 Teacher Education examinations.

The examinations council revealed that it intended to scrap the examination thereafter.
Candidates who were referred previously in ECDE examinations (Certificate and Diploma Level), which have since been phased out, shall be allowed to re-sit for the last time in March and April 2025.
Teachers were directed to upload coursework marks for DTE and SNE examinations between March 6 and 17, 2023.
Principals of Teacher Training Colleges and Sub-County Adult and Continuing Education Officers presenting candidates for the upcoming examinations were asked to adhere to all directives.
The calendar was designed to coincide with the 2023 education calendar released by the Ministry of Education.
Term one will kick off between January 23, 2023, and run for 13 weeks until April 21, 2023. The second term was scheduled to kick off on May 8, 2023, for 13 weeks, ending on August 11, 2023.
Students will then resume the third term on August 28, 2023, to November 3, 2023, to pave the way for national exams on November 6, 2023.
