Unknown to many, what is now a global phenomenon was birthed from a love story between a couple that resided 200 kilometres away.
For Tanya and Mikey Carr-Hartley, their journey dates back to the time when both were driven by the same passion; wildlife.
Tanya was born and brought up on Loldia Farms, located on the shores of Lake Naivasha. At the time, she aided her family in managing the farm.
However, located over 200 kilometres north was a 45,000-acre ranch belonging to Mikey's family in Laikipia county.
His role, just like Tanya, involved tracking and taking care of the animals on the ranch. According to Mikey, he emulated his grandfather, a renowned wildlife handler.
The duo's desire to learn more about African landscapes and wildlife led to them meeting each other and sharing a mutual love.

Tanya developed a passion for giraffes came at a tender age when the species roamed around their family farm. This inspired a dream to own a manor that hosts the animals.
"Their deep-rooted and intimate knowledge of East Africa’s wildlife, culture and environment allows them to offer a truly immersive experience, which is not just about seeing ‘The Big Five’ but is one which will enable people to capture the true spirit of the country."
The couple got married in 2001 and went on to manage private luxury safaris in a bid to track wildlife and guide clients.
