National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula announced a list of seven nominees set to join the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) as members.

In a statement dated Saturday, November 26, the Speaker noted that the list included Benedict Muasya Mutiso, Jonas Vincent Kuko, Isabel Nyambura Waiyaki and Hadija Nganyi Juma from the Majority wing.

The minority wing nominees included Wilfred Koitamet Olekina Nchoshoi,  George Jalang'o Midiwo and Fatuma Gedi Ali.

"At the closure of the submission period, the Clerks of the houses of Parliament forwarded the particulars of qualified applicants to the Leaders of the Majority and Minority Parties in Parliament to facilitate nomination of persons for appointment.

"It is notified to all Members of the National Assembly that, on Friday, November 25, 2022 and Saturday, November 26, 2022, I received communication from the leadership of the majority and minority parties conveying the selection of seven persons for appointment to the membership of the Commission on Revenue Allocation," announced the speaker.

The seven nominees are, therefore, scheduled to undergo approval hearings on Monday, December 5, 2022.

The are expected to present clearances from the Ethic and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Office of Registrar of Political Parties.

The nominees were selected from a pool of 139 applicants who expressed interest in forming part of the CRA membership.

Among the high-profile applicants were Former Director General of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Francis Meja, former nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura, Nairobi Deputy Gubernatorial aspirant Philip Kaloki and former Nyeri Senatorial Priscilla Nyokabi.

The Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) is an independent agency established under Article 215 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

It is mandated with recommending the basis for equitable sharing of revenues raised nationally between the national and the county governments.

If approved, the new team will take over after the term of members serving in the commission ends on December 31.
