The family of Abubakar Abbas, a Kenyan tiktoker who has gone viral for directing football fans to a nearby Metro station, has pleaded with the Qatar government to aid her son get another job after his three months contract ended.
Speaking to the press, Warda Abbas, Abubakar's mother, noted that many Kenyans were languishing in poverty in the Gulf country over the high rate of unemployment.
She noted that the Qatar government ought to utilise Metro guy's global fame by absorbing him into the corporate sector.
"Many youths are languishing in poverty and hopelessness in Kenya due to unemployment, let’s take them to the Middle East or abroad for work,” she told Nation
She recalled how the family was against the idea of Abubakar seeking jobs in Qatar over fears of mistreatment of Kenyans in Arab countries.
According to the mother, the recruiter, Mombasa woman representative Zamzam Mohammed, had assured them that her son would be safe in the country.
"He heard about the recruitment from the mosque when Mombasa Deputy Speaker Fadhili Makarani was informing the youths from Changamwe. We let him travel because Qatar is different from Saudi Arabia.
"Furthermore, he would be okay because he was recruited alongside 3,600 others who were recruited by Mohammed's firm in the Coast region,” she noted pointing out that the job had a Ksh75,000 monthly salary price tag.
His father, on the other hand, revealed that Abubakar was a skilled footballer and hence it was quite fulfilling that he was involved in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
