A 40-year-old man accused of defiling his 10-year-old daughter while she was admitted at the Navakholo Hospital in Kakamega County was arrested nearly a week after the incident.

According to the Navakholo Sub-County police commander Richard Omanga, the suspect fled soon after he learned that his heinous act was reported to hospital authorities on Saturday, November 26.

“We recorded statements from witnesses at the hospital that matched the medical reports indicating that the man allegedly defiled his daughter,”

"After intense interrogation, it turned out that the father could be a serial child abuser," Omanga stated.

Allegedly the man walked into the facility at night under the guise of visiting his ailing daughter only to commit the sexual offence

The incident came to light after a woman with a sick child at the hospital alerted a nurse and confessed that she had witnessed the suspect violating his daughter.

“He went home to look for money and came back late in the evening and requested to be allowed to spend the night in the ward until the next morning,” Omanga reported.

Police further stated that the man was living with his daughter after separating from his wife.

The suspect will be arraigned in court after the police conclude investigations.

Kakamega County Director for Children Services Geoffrey Musoko secured a safe haven for the young victim in one of the county children’s centres after she was discharged.

"We received the police report and after examination, it was established that she was defiled. She is under psycho-social support because she is traumatised," Musoko detailed.

The children's department affirmed that the child's privacy will remain protected as her father’s trial begins.
