Sakaja's CEC Nominee Richer Than 10 of Ruto Cabinet Secretaries

Nairobi County Executive Committee (CEC) nominee for Built Environment and Urban Planning Stephen Gathuita Mwangi has revealed that he is worth Ksh600 million way higher than at least ten of President William Ruto’s Cabinet Secretaries.



Mwangi appearing before the County Assembly’s Committee on Appointments on Tuesday, November 6 divulged that the Ksh600 million was in form of assets, while Ksh12.5 million was in solid cash.



Stephen Mwangi who served in the lands sector in City Hall since 1985 also revealed that he has a surveying firm worth hundreds of millions.



“The wealth I have accumulated is as a result of many years of hard work, my employees and my family run the business so I can confirm there is no conflict of interest between my work and personal business,” Mwangi informed the committee.

Mwangi has been the Chief officer for Lands, housing and urban planning before Governor Johnson Sakaja appointed him as the CEC in the sector.



But who are these cabinet secretaries with a net worth of less than Ksh 600 million?

Kipchumba Murkomen (Ksh550M)

Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Kipchumba Murkomen revealed that his net worth was Ksh550 million.



He told Parliamentarians that his net worth came from legal practice and salary as the Senator of Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Alfred Mutua (Ksh420M)

Cabinet Secretary nominee for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Alfred Mutua revealed that he was worth Ksh420 million.



He noted that he had businesses including hotels, apartments, and a few businesses.

Mercy Wanjau (Ksh475M)

Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau explained that she was worth Ksh475 million.



She noted that she acquired her wealth from rental income, stocks and agriculture.



Alice Wahome (Ksh.218M)



Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Alice Wahome revealed that she had a net worth of Ksh.218 million.



She stated during her vetting that she accumulated the wealth from assets she shares with her husband.

Wahome noted that her current source of income was the salary she receives as an MP, monthly rent from some of her properties, and a monthly allowance from her law firm of Ksh100,000.



Other Cabinet Secretaries below Ksh 600 Million net worth include; Zachariah Njeru (Ksh80M), Susan Nakhumicha (Ksh101M), Aisha Jumwa (Ksh100M), Soipan Tuya (Ksh156M) Salim Mvurya (Ksh120M) and Florence Bore (Ksh200M).

Sakaja's nominee would appear at position nine in Ruto’s Cabinet when it comes to wealth.



The only wealthier people in the president’s Cabinet are Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi (Ksh4 billion), Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi (Ksh1.2 billion), Cooperatives CS Simon Chelugui (Ksh993 million), Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung'u (Ksh950 million), Defence CS Aden (Ksh851 million) among others.
