Word 800m record holder David Lekuta Rudisha was hospitalised after he was involved in a plane crash on Saturday, December 10.

Confirming the incident, Athletics Kenya official Barnaba Korir stated that the light aircraft crash-landed at the Imbirikana area in Amboseli.

"I have spoken to Rudisha on phone and he told me that he has been attended to and is out of danger," he told the Nation.

Images seen by Kenyans.co.ke show the world champion posing beside the overturned plane, with his clothes greased with dirt.

He explained that the Nairobi-bound light aircraft crash-landed a few minutes after it took off from Kimana Wildlife Sanctuary.

All the other occupants in the plane, including Kenya Defence Forces athletics chairman Stephen Ole Marai, were also receiving medical attention.

The cause of the crash has not yet been established at the time of publishing this article but preliminary reports indicated that the aircraft, registered under flight number FY-BGJ, developed mechanical failure.

Rudisha was the chief guest at the 2022 Annual Masai Olympics event at Kimana Wildlife Sanctuary in Kajiado South.

The incident is the second within a week involving light aircrafts.

On Thursday, December 8, a father and his son passed on after the plane they were travelling in crashed at the Tsavo East National Park.

The duo was related to the pilot, who had saved a four-year-old boy who had strayed away from him his village into the vast national park.
