The High Court froze assets belonging to a Nairobi County employee accused of transacting over Ksh506 million in a space of 4 years, despite earning a salary of Ksh55,000 per month.

According to evidence presented before Lady Justice Esther Maina, the accused transacted the money between January 2016 and October 2022.

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) told the High Court that the money was suspected to have been sourced from fraudulent dealings.

EACC sleuths thus asked the court to grant it time to investigate the case.

“He is suspected to have received the money amounting to Ksh506 million through bank accounts in his name, the name of companies associated with him and his family members,” EACC told the High Court.

While granting the commission time to investigate the case further, Lady Justice Maina froze Ksh48 million in the suspect's bank account.

“The court prohibits him, his agents and servants from withdrawing, transferring, disposing of, wasting and in any other way dealing with funds held in his various bank accounts.”

“Subsequently, he is prohibited from transferring, disposing of, wasting and in any other way dealing with two high-end motor vehicles,” the judge ruled.

EACC further told the High Court that the accused was associated with five companies that frequently transacted with the county government

He was also accused of owning prime property in Nairobi and other parts of the country.

Among the was an estate in Langata, Nairobi, an apartment in Kahawa, a residential house in Busia plus rental premises in the same county.

EACC told Lady Justice Maina that the multimillion properties were all suspected to have been acquired using proceeds of corruption and his influence at the Nairobi County government.
